Rest in Peace
Isaiah 26:3“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee”.
When you think of the phrase “Rest in Peace” you probably think of a tombstone inscription. But I would like to challenge you today to rest in God’s peace today, while you’re still alive! “Peace” is one of the best words in the English language. Webster defines it as a state of tranquility or quiet. God defines it as the natural state of being for His children. Yet, many of God’s children are not at peace. Why not you ask? The answer is many are constantly worried about something. Just watch the evening news and you can come up with dozens of things to worry about and feel uneasy about. Wars, murders, cost of living going up, you name it we are bombarded with reasons to worry and feel uneasy every day. What should the Christian do? Keep their mind focused on the good things. (Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things) We need to guard our minds and our thoughts otherwise we will be easily swayed to the negative.
God does not wish for his children to walk around in a fearful, worried mindset. (Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life) We cannot be effective witnesses for Him with that demeanor. We have every reason to be full of joy, hope and love—expecting the best and encouraging others to do the same. Peace comes from knowing and believing that God is in control and has a plan for our lives. All of the byproducts of peace are wonderful---calmness in your home, a feeling of well being, joy and happiness. Who doesn’t want these things? Claiming peace is up to you—it’s one of God’s free gifts, yours for the asking!
